Dentures are used to replace lost teeth. There are two main types of dentures:
Full Dentures & Removable Partial Dentures
Full dentures replace all missing teeth on the upper or lower jaw or both. They are typically made of an acrylic resin.
PaRtial denture - metal
Metal based partial dentures use a metal framework to connect to the remaining teeth. A hard acrylic is added to create the natural tissue color and to bond the teeth to the metal.
This is a very sturdy and long lasting restoration. It will fit the teeth and the tissue very well and will not come out when you are eating.
The drawback is that metal can show where it connects to the teeth if in the smile line.
partial denture - 'plastic'
'Plastic' dentures do not have any metal, they are made entirely of a durable thermoplastic nylon material. These dentures are called a Valplast flexible partial denture.
These are slimmer and more aesthetic than the metal partials, but they do not last as long as the metal based because they aren't as sturdy.
Many patients elect for these dentures to the conventional metal based because they are more comfortable and can blend in better with your natural dentition.
